Song title: The Man Who Sold the World
Artist: David Bowie
Year: 1971
Why I like this song:
With David Bowie's passing, I realised I don't know much about the man's oeuvre. Which is a strange situation given, from the outside perspective, that this guy has been adored by the critics and the public alike, has many highly regarded albums, is recognised as a trailblazer and inspired an ocean of disciples.
So why is this guy - for lack of a better choice of words - alien to me?
No matter: now is a good as any to get acquainted with David Bowie - and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who is encountering him for the first time.
So I've been listening to his Man Who Sold the World album. Sure we all know the title track through the Nirvana cover but what of the original?
Well I found that it, along with the rest of the album, sounds eccentric: Completely unlike anything else at the time and charming in it's own way.
And thus is the first step on a long journey....
