Why I like this song:
For the uninitiated, The Jam were part of the late-seventies British Punk rock scene. Therefore it's ironic that their best known song is something that doesn't sound at all punk.
But this is nothing less than striking: The acoustic guitar, the rumbling bass, the percussion that strikes so little that you notice it when it does and the lyrics dealing with observations about working class life.
Indeed, you could easily make the argument that this song has aged a lot better than the other songs of the era.
